Pakistani officials say four people have been killed in a shootout at a roadblock in the tribal region of North Waziristan.
The officials say the gunbattle took place today (Sunday) when a van approached a checkpoint outside Miran Shah, the main town in the region. They say at least one armed man in the van refused to be checked, and traded fire with the security forces.
Pakistani troops killed the gunman and two others in the van. One soldier was also killed in the shootout.
Separately, Pakistani forces fired artillery Saturday at suspected militant hideouts in the village of Spelga, just south of Miran Shah.
