무인 화성 탐사선 MRO는 이제껏 화성에 발사된 우주선가운데 가장 첨단화된 우주선입니다.
MRO는 앞으로 몇달간 서서히 화성을 돌면서 고도를 낮춰 표면으로 부터 320킬로미터 가까이 까지 접근한 후 다음 2년간 화성의 기후와 물의 흔적을 조사하게 됩니다.

Another U.S. spacecraft has begun orbiting Mars on mission to survey the red planet. The unmanned Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is the most advanced spacecraft ever sent to Mars. Mission control engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California cheered as the probe sent back data confirming it was in the correct orbit on Friday.
The M.R.O.'s orbit and altitude will slowly change over the next few months, coming as close as 320-kilometers above the surface. It will then spend the next two years studying the Martian climate and searching for signs of water using its powerful, sophisticated instruments.
It will also scout for future landing sites for future robotic -- and possible manned -- missions.
