세계 식량계획, WFP는 새해가 시작되는 시점에서 산하 여러 프로그램의 운영 기금이 여전히 위태로울 정도로 부족한 상황이라고 밝혔습니다.
크리스티안 베르티아윰 WFP 대변인은 미국의 소리와의 회견에서, 남아 공화국 주민 돕기 계획의 경우, 3억 천7백만 달러를 목표로 기금을 모으고 있으나, 아직 1억 달러가 부족한 상태라고 말했습니다.
베르티아윰 대변인은 파키스탄의 유엔 구호노력을 돕기위한 기금모금에서도 목표했던 1억달러의 반이 채 못되는 정도 밖에 모금하지 못했다고 말했습니다.
지난 2005년, 세계는 인도양에서 발생한 쓰나미 희생자들을 돕는데는 매우 관대했으나, 여기에 관심이 쏠리면서, 다른 긴급 사태들은 주목을 받지 못했다고 이 대변인은 설명했습니다.
이 가운데는 니제르의 가뭄과 수단 서부 다르푸르의 계속되는 갈등사태, 그리고 태풍 스탠과 카트리나 피해자들이 포함되고 있습니다.

The United Nations' World Food Program says many of its operations remain dangerously under-funded at the start of the new year.
A spokeswoman (Christiane Berthiaume) tells VOA that an appeal to help people in southern Africa is 100-million dollars short of a 317-million dollar goal.
She says an appeal to fund air support for U.N. relief operations in Pakistan has drawn less than half of the 100-million dollars being sought.
The spokeswoman says the world was generous in 2005 to victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami -- but that the disaster diverted attention from other emergencies.
Those emergencies included drought in Niger, the ongoing conflict in Darfur, and Hurricanes Stan and Katrina.
She says the World Food Program fed 130-million people last year, the most in its 42-year history.
