부시 대통령이 9일 망명한 티벳의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마를 만납니다. 백악관 대변인은 8일 부시 대통령과 영부인 로라 부시 여사가 백악관 관저에서 있을 달라이 라마와의 만남에 참석할 것이라고 말했습니다.
워싱턴주재 중국대사관 대변인은 달라이 라마가 티벳 독립에 대한 지원을 얻으려 하고 있다고 비난했습니다.
그러나 달라이 라마의 대변인은 이같은 중국측의 비난을 부인하면서 달라이 라마는 중국이 티벳에 좀더 자율성을 부여하고 티벳 문화와 종교를 존중하기를 바라고 있다고 말했습니다.

President Bush will meet with Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Wednesday. A White House spokesman said today (Tuesday) both Mr. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush will be present for the Dalai Lama's visit to the White House residence.
Before his arrival to Washington Monday, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington accused the Buddhist leader of trying to raise support for an independent Tibet.
But a representative for the Dalai Lama responded that he does not seek independence. Instead, he would like China to grant Tibet greater autonomy and to respect Tibetan culture and religion. The Dalai Lama is in Washington for a 10-day visit.
