The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has revised its 2005 growth report, forecasting China and India to continue expanding rapidly this year, but citing rising oil prices as a threat to regional growth.

. In its Outlook 2005 Update report released today (Thursday), the ADB says China is expected to grow by nine-point-two percent, up from April's forecast of eight-point-five. The report says its growth forecast for India remains at six-point-nine percent.

The report downgraded Southeast Asian growth from five-point-four percent to five-percent. ADB Chief Economist Ifzal Ali said the revision was due in part to higher oil prices. But Mr. Ali says he believes Asian economies will adjust before they are severely disrupted.

The ADB says developing economies in Asia overall are expected to grow by six-point-six percent this year.
