미국 서부 캘리포니아주 남부 지역에서 소방관들은 16일에도 수백 채의 가옥을 파괴하고 적어도 2만 명의 주민들을 대피시키도록 만들고 있는 산불을 진화하기 위해 안간힘을 쓰고 있습니다.
산불의 최악의 조건인 낮은 습도와 강풍은 16일도 계속되고 있으나 기상 전문가들은 시속 70킬로미터의 강풍이 다소 진정돼 소방관들이 일부 불길을 진화할 수 있도록 만들고 있다고 말했습니다.
관계관들은 앞서 15일 로스 엔젤레스에서 서북쪽으로 약 20킬로 미터쯤 떨어진 실마 지역에서 5백여 채의 이동식 가옥이 파괴됐다고 전했습니다.
캘리포니아주의 아놀드 슈워제네거 주지사는 로스엔젤레스와 다른 두 지역들에 대해 긴급 비상사태령을 선포했습니다.

Firefighters in California continue to battle wildfires (today/Sunday)that have destroyed hundreds of homes and forced the evacuation of at least 20-thousand people in the southern part of the (western U.S.)state.
Extreme fire conditions were expected to continue today with low humidity (between 10 and 15 percent), but forecasters say wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour have slowed, allowing firefighters to contain some blazes.
Officials said Saturday that more than 500 mobile homes were destroyed in(Sylmar,) a community just (about 20 kilometers)northwest of Los Angeles.
The police chief of Los Angeles (William Bratton)said he is concerned there may be fatalities in the mobile home park, but authorities have to wait for the area to cool before beginning a search.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and two other counties.
