Yes, it's the day after Martin Luther King's birthday, and it's the date of the inauguration of our 44th President of the United States of America.

취임식이 많이 기다려지시죠?
Yes, really. It's a very historical event something I never thought that I would see in my lifetime as an African American in the United States.

대통령 취임식을 ‘inauguration’이라고 하지요?
It's called the swearing-in of the President, and it's also called inauguration of the President, or inauguration day.

대통령 취임식은 어디서 하지요?
The inauguration traditionally takes place at noon at the Capitol, and it’s on the west side of the Capitol.

아주 드물게는 날씨가 극도로 추울 때 실내로 옮겨서 하기도 합니다.

There're many, many people that assemble along the parade route and get to view the parade and witness history.

I do. And I even remember some of the famous words that he said to the nation.

And to quote that word for word, “And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” And those words have made history and are recited very often.

Yes, I actually was able to attend President Clinton's parade for the second term. And we also, two friends of mine, we actually purchased tickets to one of the balls.

All dressed up in black tie, and evening gowns. And we actually were able to go to one of the cheaper balls which was 500$ per ticket. But that was one of the cheaper ones.

Well, like I said, I’m of African American descent.
And my whole life I’ve been taught by my parents and grandparents, you know, about things that African Americans had to endure in the United States coming over as slaves.

My grandmother is 88, and her grandmother was actually a slave. So she remembers stories from her grandmother.

So, to actually be alive when there's a black President in the White House is very exciting, and it makes us all very proud and not only just because he's black one, because he was the best candidate.
