German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has begun a tour of Persian Gulf nations, (Sunday) with developments in Iran and Iraq on the agenda, as well as various business ventures.
During his seven-nation, week-long trip, Mr. Schroeder is expected to seek regional support for Europe's diplomatic efforts with Iran concerning its nuclear program. He is also expected to seek assurances that the Gulf states support efforts to reach a peaceful solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
Mr. Schroeder goes first to Saudi Arabia, and later Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Yemen and Oman.
His final stop is in the United Arab Emirates, where he is scheduled to meet Iraqi officers being trained by German military instructors.
It is his second trip to the region in the past 18-months. He is accompanied by a delegation of German business leaders.
