미국의 바락 오바마 대통령 당선자는 경기 부양을 위한 지출 필요와 예산 적자 확대에 대한 우려 사이에서 균형을 잡아야만 한다고 말했습니다.
오바마 당선자는 그렇게 되기 위해서는 정부가 훨씬 더 효율적으로 운영돼야 할 것이라고 말했습니다.
이 같은 상황을 염두에 둔 오바마 당선자는 사업효율 전문가인 낸시 킬퍼 전 재무부 차관보를 신설된 성과효율 책임자(CPO)에 임명하고, 모든 정부 계획을 검토해 효과가 없는 것은 폐지할 것이라는 선거 공약을 이행하는 책임을 맡겼습니다.
오바마 당선자는 올해 미국 예산 적자가 1조2천억 달러 이상으로 늘어날 것이라고 미국 의회를 위해 일하는 경제전문가들이 전망한 직후 그 같이 말했습니다.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama says he must balance the need to spend money to stimulate the battered U.S. economy against worries about a ballooning budget deficit.
Mr. Obama says to make this work, the government will have to operate much more efficiently.
With that in mind, he appointed a "Chief Performance Officer" today (Wednesday) and charged her with carrying out his campaign promise to examine every government program and get rid of those that do not work.
She is Nancy Killefer, a former Treasury Department official and business efficiency consultant.
Mr. Obama spoke right after the economic experts who work for the U.S. Congress said the U.S. budget deficit will grow to more than one-point-two trillion dollars this year.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office also said the economy will shrink more than two percent while unemployment soars above nine percent.
