U.S. President-elect Barack Obama met Monday with leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives in an effort to craft a new economic stimulus package that can get quick congressional approval.
The president-elect is asking lawmakers to approve around 750 billion dollars to improve roads, bridges, mass transit and schools in a bid to create three million jobs.
Meanwhile, the exact size and makeup of the Senate remains in question. Officials in the northern U.S. state of Minnesota have certified that Democrat and former television comedian Al Franken won the November contest for a Senate seat.
But aids to incumbent Republican Norm Coleman say they will challenge the results. They say some ballots were mishandled and others were left out of the recount.
