이라크 수도 바그다드의 안전지대 그린존에 42헥타아르에 이르는 면적에 자리잡은 새 미국 대사관은 이라크의 잘랄 탈라바니 대통령과 미국의 존 네그로폰테 국무부 부장관이 참석한 가운데 오늘 기념식을 가졌습니다.
미국은 지난 1일 바그다드 그린존의 관할권을 이라크 군에 넘겼습니다. 이 같은 조치는 오는 2011년까지 이라크 주둔 미군을 철수하기로 한 미국과 이라크의 안보협정에 따라 이뤄진 것입니다.

The new compound - located on a 42 hectare site in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone - opened today (Monday) in a ceremony attended by Iraqi President Jalai Talabani and Deputy U.S. Secretary of State John Negroponte.
U.S. Marines raised the American flag in the embassy courtyard as the U.S. national anthem was played.
The new embassy cost more than 600 million dollars to build, and will house more than one thousand employees. The facility has its own water supply, electricity generating plant and sewage treatment facility.
On January first, the U.S. transferred control of Baghdad's Green Zone to the Iraqi army - the first step of a new security deal that calls for U.S. forces to withdraw from the country by 2011.
