반기문 유엔 사무총장은 변호사이자 노벨 평화상 수상자인 이란의 시린 에바디 씨에게 가해진 위협행위에 대해 깊은 우려를 표시했습니다.
반기문 사무총장은 또 이란 정부가 이번 사건에 강력하게 대응해 줄 것과 에바디 씨의 안전을 지켜줄 것을 요청했습니다.
지난 1월 1일 에바디 씨가 이스라엘군의 가자지구 진입을 지지한 것에 항의해 몇몇 시위대가 에바디 씨의 집에 페인트로 구호를 쓰고 살해위협을 가하면서 고함을 지르는 사건이 발생했습니다.
이런 시위는 이란 정부와 일부 강경파들이 에바디 씨에게 적대적인 행동을 시작한 뒤 지난 11일 동안 세 번 째입니다. 한편 이란 경찰은 12월 29일 에바디 씨의 사무실을 수색해 컴퓨터와 고객신상자료를 압수했습니다.
한편 미국정부는 이 같은 시위와 에바디 씨에 대한 이란 정부의 조치는 인권운동가에 대한 탄압이라고 비난했습니다.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he is greatly concerned about reports that Iranian lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi is being harassed.
Mr. Ban Saturday called on Iranian authorities to take immediate measures to prevent any further harassment and to ensure Ebadi's safety.
On Thursday (January first), Iranian protesters spray-painted slogans on Ebadi's home, chanted death threats and shouted accusations that she supports Israel's Gaza offensive.
The demonstration was the third time in 11 days that Iranian authorities or hardline groups close to the government have moved against the human rights lawyer. On Monday, (December 29th), police raided her private law office, seizing computers and her clients' confidential documents.
The United States has also criticized the harassment, saying such actions are part of an "increasingly hostile campaign" targeting human rights activists in Iran.
