중국 석유천연가스 유한공사가 이라크 동부에서 원유시추사업에 나섰습니다. 이라크와 해외 국가간 유전개발 사업이 타결된 것은 지난 2003년 사담 후세인 전 이라크 대통령이 실각한 이후 처음입니다.
3십억 달러 규모의 이번 사업은 바그다드 남동부 와시트 지구의 유전지대인 알 아다브를 개발하는 내용을 골자로 하고 있습니다.
개발이 완료될 경우 알 아다브는 하루 최소 11만톤의 원유를 생산할 수 있게 됩니다.
이라크는 이번 계약을 통해 석유 자원을 확보하고 중국은 생산량에 따른 고정 수익을 받게 됩니다.

The Chinese National Petroleum Company (CNPC) has started work on an oil project in eastern Iraq -- the first time a foreign company has secured an oil deal in Iraq since former dictator Saddam Hussein was deposed in 2003.
The three-billion-dollar project will develop Al-Ahdab, an oil field in Wasit province, southeast of the capital, Baghdad.
Al-Ahdab is expected to produce at least 110-thousand barrels of oil per day when fully operational.
The deal between Iraq and the Chinese company is a service agreement, allowing Iraq to keep the oil while paying the company a set fee on each barrel of oil produced.
Iraq's proven oil reserves are among the largest in the world, and oil is a vital part of the economy.
