스위스는 소말리아 해상에서 해적들의 공격으로부터 자국 상선을 보호하기 위해 군사 요원을 배치할 태세로 있다고 밝혔습니다.
스위스의 파스칼 쿠슈팽 대통령은 21일 스위스의 한 신문에 게재된 글을 통해 이같이 밝혔습니다.
쿠슈팽 대통령은 스위스 선박들이 위협을 받게 될 경우 군인들을 파견하는 것 외에는 다른 해결방안이 없다면서 스위스 정부는 현재 군사 파견 안에 대한 법적, 재정적, 그리고 현실적인 문제 등 여러 방면에 대한 검토 작업을 진행 중에 있다고 밝혔습니다.
미국과 러시아 인도 그리고 다른 나라들의 군 병력은 해적들의 공격을 막기 위해 이미 소말리아 해상에서 순찰활동을 펼치고 있습니다.
소말리아 해적들은 올해들어 40여척의 선박을 납치해 이 가운데 현재 적어도 15척의 선박과 선원들을 억류하고 있습니다.

Switzerland says it is ready to deploy military personnel to defend its merchant ships from pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia.
Swiss President Pascal Couchepin made the remarks in an article published today (Sunday) by a Swiss newspaper (SonntagsZeitung).
The Swiss leader says there is no solution other than to send soldiers when Swiss ships are threatened. He said the government is now studying the legal, financial, and practical aspects of the proposed deployment.
Forces of the United States, Russia, India, and other countries are already patrolling the waters off Somalia in an effort to halt pirate attacks.
Somali pirates have hijacked more than 40 ships this year and are holding at least 15 vessels and their crews hostage.
