석유수출국기구 OPEC의 기록적인 석유생산 감축 발표에도 불구하고, 국제 원유가격이 이틀 째 하락세를 지속하면서 4년 만에 최저치를 기록했습니다.
18일 뉴욕시장에서 거래된 1월 인도 분 선물 원유 가격은 배럴당38달러 이하로 떨어졌습니다.
국제원유가격은 지난 7월 최고치를 경신한 이후, 현재까지 70퍼센트 이상 떨어졌습니다. 몇몇 경제 전문가들은 경제악화에 따른 수요 감소로 원유 가격이 더 떨어질 것이라고 지적하고 있습니다.
가격이 떨어지는 것은 원유뿐 만이 아닙니다. 유엔 식량 농업기구에 따르면, 전 세계적인 생산량 증가로 인해 국제 곡물 가격도 떨어지고 있습니다. 유엔은 그러나 아프가니 스탄 과, 에티오피아, 그리고 에리트레아 같은 개발도상국의 취약계층들에게는 곡물가격이 여전히 높다고 경고했습니다.
한편, 로버트 졸릭 세계은행총재는 세계 각국 정부에 경기 후퇴에 대응한다는 이유로 보호무역주의로 기울지 말 것을 촉구했습니다.

Crude oil prices dropped for a second day in a row, hitting levels not seen in four-and-a-half years, as investors shrugged off a record production cut by the world's oil cartel.
Crude oil for future delivery fell to less than 38-dollars a barrel during trading in New York (today/Thursday).
Prices have now tumbled more than 70-percent since hitting a record-high in July. And some economists say prices could drop even further as a battered global economy decreases demand.
Oil is not the only commodity dropping in value. The United Nations (Food and Agriculture Organization) says world cereal prices are falling due to an increase in global production. But officials warn cereal prices remain too high in developing nations, including those (like Afghanistan, Eritrea and Ethiopia)with vulnerable populations.
Meanwhile, World Bank President Robert Zoellick is urging governments not to resort to protectionism.
