지난 2004년 지진해일 쓰나미로 큰 피해를 입은 인도양 지역 사람들을 위한 가옥신축등의 작업이 거의 마무리 됐다고 국제 구호 단체가 밝혔습니다.
국제적십자사연맹과 국제적신월사는 15일, 지난 4년간 활동 진척 보고서에서, 이미 4만 1천동 이상의 영구가옥이 완공되었고, 내년, 2009년에는 약 1만 3천동의 가옥을 더 지을 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔습니다. 또한 이미 280여동의 병원과 진료소가 건축되었고, 추가로 거의 100동의 건축물 공사가 진행 중이라고 덧붙였습니다.
국제적십자연맹의 제리 탈봇 쓰나미 복구 특별 담당대표는, 쓰나미 복구와 관련된 모든 사업이 내년 안에 마무리 될 것이라고 말했습니다. 탈봇 대표는, 이미 사업의 중점이 복구에서 피해 지역에 대한 장기 개발로 바뀌었다고 말했습니다.

An aid federation says nearly all the houses it plans to build for people affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 are finished or under construction.
In a four-year progress report, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says it has built more than 41-thousand permanent houses and expects to complete about 13-thousand more in 2009.
The federation says its societies have built about 280 hospitals and clinics in tsunami-hit areas, with work in progress on nearly 100 others.
Jerry Talbot, the federation's special representative for tsunami recovery says all of the planned construction will be completed within the next year. He says the emphasis is already shifting from recovery to long-term development of the affected communities.
An undersea earthquake off the coast of Indonesia in late December 2004 whipped up giant waves that killed thousands of people along Indian Ocean coastlines and destroyed their communities.
