검찰은 12일 천 전 총통이 돈 세탁과 횡령, 공문서 위조 혐의로 기소됐다며 최고형을 받게 할 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 이번 사건에서는 천 전 총통 이외에 부인과 아들, 며느리를 포함한 다른 12명도 기소됐습니다.
지난 5월 총통직에서 물러난 천 전 총통은 8년간의 집권기간 동안 저지른 부정부패 혐의로 지난달 12일 구속 수감됐습니다.
천수이볜 전 총통은 혐의를 모두 완강히 부인하고 있으며 자신에 대한 혐의는 중국을 달래기 위한 정치적 음모라고 주장하고 있습니다.

Taiwan has indicted former President Chen Shui-bian on corruption-related charges -- the first time a former Taiwanese leader is facing criminal prosecution.
Prosecutors said today (Friday) they will seek "maximum punishment" for Chen on charges of money laundering, embezzlement and forgery. Twelve other people have also been indicted in the case, including Mr. Chen's wife, son and daughter-in-law.
The former president has been detained since November 12th on suspicion of corruption dating back to his eight-year term in office, which ended when he left office in May.
He denies any wrongdoing and says the charges are a political plot to appease China. The former president angered Beijing with his calls for independence from the mainland.
