Leaders of Germany, France and Britain are arguing over how best to aid Europe's faltering economy as top officials of the European Union gather in Brussels for a summit today (Thursday).

French President Nicolas Sarkozy favors a 260-billion-dollar stimulus package for the group.

German officials favor a less expensive approach and have criticized Britain for cutting taxes to stimulate the economy.

Earlier reports showed that the global economic slowdown is also hitting Asian economies.

The Asian Development Bank cut its forecast for regional growth. The (Manila-based)institution says Asia's emerging nations will grow more slowly next year (six percent instead of last year's seven-percent expansion).

Bank official Lee Jong-Wha says the economic crisis will be "manageable if countries respond decisively and collectively." The Asian Development Bank is urging governments to pass economic stimulus plans to boost domestic demand.

Meanwhile, new data from China show government revenue slumped more than three percent in November, another sign of a weakening economy. Tax cuts, intended to stimulate spending and slumping demand, cut tax revenue.

South Korea's Central Bank slashed the key interest rate sharply.
