미국의 우주 무기 계획과 동유럽 미사일 방어체제에 대응해 러시아 군이 미사일을 개량하고 있다고 러시아 장성이 밝혔습니다.
러시아의 인테르팍스 통신은 니콜라이 솔로프쵸프 미사일 부대 사령관을 인용해 미국이 보유한 우주 미사일 방어체제를 뛰어넘기 위해 러시아가 미사일의 성능을 향상시키고 있다고 전했습니다.
솔로프쵸프 사령관은 미국이 폴란드와 체코에 지상 미사일 방어체제를 구축하려는 계획에 대응해서도 러시아가 미사일 체제를 개량하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
A Russian general says the military is upgrading its missiles in response to U.S. plans for weapons in space and an Eastern Europe-based missile defense shield.
Russian news agency Interfax quotes the commander of Russia's missile forces (, General Nikolai Solovtsov,) as saying the upgrade will allow missiles to fly outside the range of any space-based missile defense system.
The commander also said Russia is perfecting the structure of its missile systems in response to U.S. plans to have a land-based missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic.
The U.S. says the shield is to protect itself and its allies from attack by rogue nations, such as Iran.
The plan has been severely criticized by Moscow, which calls the plan a threat its own security.
