티벳의 망명 중인 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마는23일, 전세계에서 온 티벳 특사들에게 중국으로부터의 티벳 자치권 확대 계획은 신중을 기하지 않을 경우 실패할 수 있다고 경고했습니다.
달라이 라마는 북부 인도 다름살라 마을에 모여든 전세계 6백여 명의 티벳 특사들이 티벳의 독립보다는 더 큰 자치권을 요구하는 이른바 중도노선을 따르기로 한 결정은 옳은 것이라며 이같이 말했습니다.
하지만 달라이 라마는 향후 20년 동안 행동과 계획에 있어서 신중을 기하지 않는다면 그러한 계획은 실패할 위험이 있다고 말했습니다.
6일간 열린 전세계 망명 티벳 지도자들의 회의는 대다수 참석자들이 티벳 중도노선 유지를 찬성한 가운데 22일 막을 내렸습니다.
하지만 티벳 망명 정부의 도마 지아리 의회 부의장은 22일 만일 중국 정부가 티벳의 의미있는 자치권 요구를 긍정적으로 받아들이지 않는다면, 티벳은 완전 독립을 추구할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Tibet's exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama warned hundreds of Tibetans from around the world today (Sunday)that plans to gain greater autonomy from China could fail if they do not exercise prudence.
The Dalai Lama told about 600 delegates gathered in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala that they were right in deciding to follow what is called the "middle way" of seeking greater autonomy for Tibet rather than independence from China.
But the Nobel Peace laureate said Tibetans risk failure if they are not careful in their actions and planning in the next 20 years.
A six-day meeting of exiled Tibetan community leaders ended Saturday, with the majority of participants in favor of continuing the middle-way approach.
However, the deputy parliament speaker for the exiled government (, Doma Jyari,) said Saturday if China does not respond positively to Tibetan demands for meaningful autonomy, the Tibetans will pursue "complete independence."
