미국과 일본의 군 관리들은 미사일 요격 시험이 실패한 이유에 대해 즉각 밝히지 않았습니다. 일본은 지난해 실시한 미사일 방어체제 시험에서는 성공을 거둔바 있습니다.
미국과 일본은 지난 98년 북한이 일본 상공으로 미사일을 시험 발사한 뒤 미사일 방어체제 구축을 위해 협력해 왔습니다.

A Japanese warship failed to shoot down a ballistic missile Wednesday during a test of the country's missile defense system.
The Chokai destroyer fired a rocket aimed at a dummy medium-range missile that was launched minutes earlier from a test range on the U.S. Hawaiian island of Kauai.
Military officials from both Japan and the United States say there is no immediate explanation for the failed test.
Japan successfully conducted its first test of the system last year.
Tokyo and Washington have been collaborating on a missile shield defense system since North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile over Japan in 1998.
Japan is planning to equip its warships with missile tracking technology and interceptor missiles.
