미국의 바락 오바마 대통령 당선자는 17일 자신의 대선 경쟁자였던 존 맥케인 아리조나 주 상원의원을 만나 미국의 경제를 함께 개선하는 방안에 대해 논의했다고 밝혔습니다.
오바마 당선자는 맥케인 의원과 대선에서 경합을 벌여 지난 11월 4일 승리한 이후 맥케인 의원과 처음으로 만났습니다.
오바마 당선자는 또 이번 기회는 전쟁 영웅이자 오랫동안 미 의회의 상원의원으로 활동해 온 매케인 의원이 미국에 보여준 뛰어난 봉사에 대해 감사를 전하는 기회라고 말했습니다.
두 사람은 시카고의 정권 인수팀 사무실에서 만났습니다. 앞서 오바마 당선자 정권 인수팀은 두 사람이 좀 더 효과적이고 효율적인 정부를 만드는 방법들을 논의할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama says he and his former rival for the presidency, John McCain, are holding talks about how they can work together to "fix up" the country.
Mr. Obama made the comment today(Monday)in his first face-to-face talks with McCain since defeating the the Arizona senator in the presidential election November fourth.
The president-elect said the meeting is also an opportunity to thank McCain -- a war hero, former prisoner of war and long-time lawmaker -- for his "outstanding" service to the country.
The two are meeting at the president-elect's transition office in Chicago. Ahead of the talks, the transition office said the two planned to discuss ways to bring about a "more effective and efficient" government.
