유엔은 11일 아프가니스탄 정부가 최근 5명의 살인범에 대해 처형을 집행한 데 대해 비난했습니다.
나비 필레이 유엔인권고등판무관은, 아프가니스탄 정부에 대해 정당한 법 절차와 공정한 재판을 보장되는 사법제도가 확립될 때까지 모든 사형 집행을 중지할 것을 촉구했습니다.
필레이 판무관은 범인들이 저지른 범죄의 가혹함을 이해한다고 말했습니다. 그러나 아프간의 사법제도는 국제 기준에 미치지 못하며, 따라서 무고한 사람들이 처형될 수도 있는 심각한 위험이 있다고 지적했습니다.
필레이 판무관은 이어, 아프가니스탄 정부는 하미드 카르자이 대통령이 사형 선고를 승인한 이후 지난 4일 간 5명의 살해범에 대한 처형을 집행했다고 말했습니다.
아프간에서는 현재 1백 여명이 카르자이 대통령의 사형집행 승인 서명을 기다리고 있다고 필레이 판무관은 밝혔습니다.

The top U.N. human rights official has condemned the recent execution of five convicted murderers in Afghanistan.
U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay today(Tuesday) urged the Afghan government to stop all executions until its legal system can guarantee due process and a fair trial.
Pillay says she recognizes the severity of the crimes for which the prisoners had been convicted. But she says the Afghan justice system still falls below international standards, and there is a "grave risk" that innocent people could be executed.
She says Afghanistan has executed five convicted murderers over the past four days, after President Hamid Karzai approved their death sentences. She also says more than 100 people remain on death row awaiting the president's signature on orders to execute them.
