콘돌리자 라이스 미국 국무장관은 8일과 9일 이틀간에 걸쳐 중동 평화 정착 방안 당사국 대표들과 만날 예정입니다. 라이스 장관과 중동 4개국 외교 사절들은 이집트의 휴양지 샴 엘 셰이크에서 만나 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간 평화 정착 방안을 논의하게 됩니다.
이스라엘과 미국에서 각각 새정부가 출범할 예정인 가운데 이스라엘과 팔레스라인 협상단은 이들 평화 협상 대표들에게 보고서를 제출할 계획입니다. 아랍 국가 외무장관들 역시 이번 회담에 참가할 예정입니다.
라이스 장관는 이스라엘과 팔레스타인간 평화 협정이 당초 목표로 했던 올해 말까지 타결되기 힘들 것이라는 점을 인정했습니다. 라이스 장관은 그러나 미국 차기 행정부하에서도 협정 타결 노력이 이어질 것이라고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due to meet with envoys in the Middle East
peace process today (Saturday) and Sunday in Egypt.
Rice and members of the international Middle East quartet will gather in Egypt's resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss progress in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
The group will hear a progress report from Israeli and Palestinian negotiators, and is expected to affirm support for continuing talks despite upcoming government changes in Israel and the United States.
Foreign ministers of some Arab countries will also participate.
Rice has acknowledged that an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal will not be reached by a target date of year's end, but said efforts will continue next year under U.S. President-elect Barack Obama.
