파키스탄 보안 당국은 북서부 26일 스왓 계곡에서 무장요원들과 친 정부 전투원들간에 교전이 벌어져 15명 이상이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
관계자들은 이날 북서 프론티어 지방의 마타 구역에서 벌어진 전투에서 사망한 10명의 무장요원들 가운데는 지휘관 3명도 포함됐다고 말했습니다. 이 전투에서 친 정부 전투원 5명 이상도 사망했습니다.
이번 교전은 무장요원들이 60명 이상을 인질로 잡은 후 발생한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
파키스탄 경찰은 역시 북서 프론티어 지방에서 파키스탄 탈레반 지도자의 동생이 저격됐다고 밝혔습니다.
한편 파키스탄 보안관리들은 바자우르 지역 근처에서 정부군이 군 헬리곱터의 지원을 받아 8명 이상의 무장요원들을 사살했다고 말했습니다.

Pakistani officials say at least 15
people have died in a gunbattle between militants and local pro-government
fighters in the northwestern Swat valley.
Officials say three commanders were among the 10 militants killed in the battle
today (Sunday) in the Matta district of Northwest Frontier Province. At
least five pro-government fighters also died.
Reports say the fighting began after militants took at least 60 people hostage.
In the same province today. police say the brother of Pakistani Taliban chief
Baitullah Mehsud was shot dead and left in a canal in Bannu district.
Residents say the victim (, Yahya,) was not involved in Taliban
activities. It is not clear why he was killed.
In the nearby Bajaur tribal region today (Sunday), Pakistani security
officials say government forces killed at least eight militants with the help
of military helicopters.
