Afghan authorities say a gunman has shot and killed two Westerners and an
Afghan security guard outside the Kabul office of an international shipping
company.
British officials identified the two Westerners as a Briton and a South
African. They worked for international shipping company DHL.
An Afghan official (General Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, head of the Criminal
Investigation Department) says a guard inside the German-owned DHL shipping
office opened fire on a company vehicle today (Saturday), killing the
two DHL employees and the security guard.
The official says it is not clear what prompted the shooting, in a busy,
upscale area of Kabul across from the Iranian Embassy.
Police say they have detained 11 people for questioning in connection with the
incident.
In other news, Afghan and Turkish officials say two Turkish engineers were
kidnapped in Afghanistan earlier in the week.
