중국의 원자바오 총리는 4명의 유아들이 사망하고, 중국 전역에서 5만3천명의 유아들이 병에 걸린 멜라민 오염 유제품 파동과 관련해 중국 정부에 일부 책임이 있다고 말했습니다.
원 총리는 미국 사이언스 매거진과의 인터뷰에서, 중국 정부가 유제품 산업을 감독할 책임이 있었다고 말했습니다.
원 총리는 우유 원액 생산에서 이동, 처리, 가공까지 모든 과정에 대해 명백한 기준과 검사 조건이 있어야 한다고 말했습니다.
중국은 9월 14일 이전에 생산된 모든 유제품과 분유 제품을 매장에서 수거했으며, 이들 제품에 대해 멜라민 검출 검사를 실시하고 있습니다.
멜라민은 화학물로 플라스틱, 비료, 방화제 등의 원료로 사용됩니다. 중국 당국자들은 유제품 업체들이 단백질 함유량을 높이기 위해 멜라민을 첨가했다고 말했습니다.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says his government is partly responsible for the
tainted milk scandal that has killed four infants and sickened 53 thousand
throughout the country.
In an interview in the U.S. publication "Science Magazine," Mr. Wen
said the government was responsible for monitoring the industry at the core of
the crisis.
He told the magazine the production of raw milk, collection, transport,
processing, formulation and manufactured goods all need to have clear standards
and testing requirements.
China has ordered all liquid and powdered milk made before September 14th be
taken off store shelves so it can be tested for melamine.
The chemical is used primarily in plastics, fertilizers and flame retardants.
Chinese authorities say it was added to milk products to make them appear
richer in protein.
