달라이 라마의 대변인은 수술이 성공적이었다며 하루나 이틀 지나면 달라이 라마가 퇴원할 수 있을 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 보좌진들에 따르면 올해 73살의 달라이 라마는 정기 검진을 받기 위해 어제 인도 뉴델리의 한 병원에 입원했습니다.
노벨 평화상 수상자이기도 한 달라이 라마는 이번주초 건강검진을 받았으나 아무 이상이 없고 외국 순방을 재개해도 좋다는 의료진의 진단을 받은 바 있습니다.

The Dalai Lama underwent a successful surgery in India today (Friday)to remove gallstones.
A spokesman (Tenzin Takhla)for the Tibetan spiritual leader said he
expects him to be released from the hospital in a day or two.
The 73-year-old Dalai Lama was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi Thursday for
what aides described as routine tests.
According to the Mayo Clinic (a U.S.-based not-for-profit medical practice),gallstones are deposits of cholesterol or calcium salts that form in the
gallbladder. Treatment is usually straightforward, and surgery is common.
The Nobel laureate received a routine follow-up medical examination earlier
this week. Doctors found nothing wrong and cleared him to resume foreign
travel. He was supposed to return home Thursday.
In August, the Dalai Lama was admitted to an Indian hospital for what was
described as "abdominal discomfort" -- a symptom of gallstones. He
canceled two foreign trips during his four-day hospital stay.
