올해 노벨 평화상은 나미비아와 코소보 등지의 분쟁을 협상을 통해 평화적으로 해결하는데 기여한 마르티 아티사리 전 핀란드 대통령에게 돌아갔습니다.
노벨 위원회는 아티사리 전 대통령이 지난 30년 이상 노력을 기울여 보다 세계평화에 기여했다고 말했습니다.
아티사리 전 대통령은 노르웨이 방송에, 자신은 남 아프리카 지역의 나미비아에서 평화를 중재한 것을 가장 큰 업적으로 생각한다고 말했습니다. 이같은 평화협상은1990년 나미비아가 독립하는데 중대한 역할을 했습니다.
최근 아타사리 전 대통령은 국제 감시 아래 코소보가 독립국가를 수립하는 계획안도 작성했습니다. 코소보 독립 안은 현재 실행과정에 있습니다.
올해 71살의 아티사리 전 대통령은 또 국제평화를 위한 재단을 설립해 이라크와 인도네시아, 북아일랜드의 평화 증진에 힘써왔습니다.
노벨 위원회는 아타사리 전 대통령의 노력과 업적을 다른 이들이 본 받길 바란다고 말했습니다.

The prestigious Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to former
Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari for his work negotiating peaceful solutions
to conflicts from Namibia to Kosovo.
Norway's Nobel Committee today (Friday) said Mr. Ahtisaari's efforts
over more than 30 years have contributed to a more peaceful world.
Mr. Ahtisaari told a Norwegian broadcaster he considers his peace efforts in
the southern African nation of Namibia his greatest achievement. Those talks
paved the way for Namibia's independence from South Africa.
More recently, he crafted a plan for Kosovo to be granted
internationally-supervised independence -- a plan now being implemented.
Mr. Ahtisaari and an organization he founded (the Crisis Management
Initiative)have also worked to facilitate peace in Iraq, Indonesia and
Northern Ireland.
The Nobel Committee said it hopes others may be inspired by his efforts and
achievements.
