올해 노벨 생리 의학상은 후천성 면역결핍증과 자궁 경부암 바이러스를 발견한 유럽 과학자 3명에게 돌아갔습니다.
스웨덴 노벨 위원회는 프랑스 과학자 프랑수아 바르 시누와 뤽 몽타니에가 지난 80년대초 후천성 면역결핍증 바이러스를 발견한 공로를 인정해 상을 수여한다고 밝혔습니다. 독일 과학자 하랄트 추르 하우젠 역시 여성들 사이에서 두 번째로 흔한 암인 자궁 경부암을 일으키는 바이러스를 발견해 노벨 생리 의학상의 영예를 안았습니다.
오늘 발표된 노벨 생리 의학상에 이어 평화상을 비롯한 5개의 노벨상이 이번 주에 추가로 발표될 예정입니다.

Three European scientists have won the 2008 Nobel prize in medicine for their
discoveries of separate viruses that cause AIDS and cervical cancer.
The Nobel commission in Stockholm recognized Francoise Barre-Sinoussi and Luc
Montagnier of France for their discovery in the early 1980s of the HIV virus
that causes AIDS by destroying immune cells.
German researcher Harald zur Hausen was honored for discovering the virus that
causes cervical cancer -- the second-most common cancer among women.
Hausen will get half of the nearly one-and-a-half million-dollar award, while
Barre-Sinoussi and Montagnier will share the other half.
Five more Nobel prizes will be announced during the next week, with the peace
prize recipient being revealed Friday.
