인도 동북부 아쌈 주에서 최근 부족 단체들과 회교 이민자들 사이에 충돌이 벌어져 적어도 30명이 목숨을 잃었다고 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
이들 사망자 가운데는 5일 경찰의 총격으로 숨진 적어도 4명이 포함됩니다.
경찰은 아쌈 주에서 지난 3일 보도(Bodo) 부족민들과 회교도들 사이에 벌어진 폭력 사태를 막기 위한 노력의 일환으로 통행금지령을 시행하고 있습니다.
이들 회교도의 많은 수는 이웃 방글라데시로부터 와서 정착한 이민자들입니다.
관계관들은 양측의 마을 주민들은 무기를 이용해 서로 공격을 자행하고 있어 1백 여명이 다치고 적어도 3만여명의 주민들이 집을 떠나 피신했다고 말하고 있습니다.
현지 당국자들은 이같은 폭력 사태가 발생하고 있는 확실한 원인을 파악하지 못하고 있습니다.

Indian police say at least 30
people have been killed in recent clashes between tribal groups and immigrant
Muslims in northeast India.
The deaths include at least four people shot by police today (Sunday).
Police are enforcing a curfew with shoot-on-sight orders in an effort to
contain the violence that erupted Friday in Assam state between Bodo
tribespeople and Muslims.
Many of the Muslims are settlers from neighboring Bangladesh.
Officials say villagers from the two communities are attacking each other with
machetes, spears and guns. More than 100 people have been injured and at least
30-thousand others have fled their homes.
Local authorities are unsure what caused the violence.
