백악관의 토니 프라토 부대변인은 부시 대통령이 30일 미국 양당 대통령 후보인 민주당의 바락 오바마 상원의원과 공화당의 존 맥케인 상원의원과 각각 전화통화를 가졌으며 통화내용은 "매우 건설적"이었다고 말했습니다.
두 후보는 경제를 살리기 위한 단기 처방책으로 연방정부가 보증하는 은행 예금지급보증 한도를 현재 10만 달러에서 25만 달러로 늘리자고 제안했습니다. 두 후보는 이같은 방안이 소규모 사업체 운영에 도움이 될 것이라고 지적했습니다.

presidential candidates have offered President George Bush ideas on how to
address the economic crisis dominating their race for the White House.
A White House spokesman (Tony Fratto) said Democratic Senator Barack
Obama and Republican Senator John McCain spoke separately with the president by
phone today (Tuesday). The spokesman called the conversations "very
constructive."
Both candidates proposed temporary measures to help the economy. They suggested
the limit on bank deposits guaranteed by the government be increased from
100-thousand dollars to 250-thousand dollars.
They said that should help small businesses pay operating costs and employees'
wages.
Obama and McCain are urging lawmakers to keep working on a financial rescue
plan. The U.S. House of Representatives rejected a 700 billion-dollar version
of the plan Monday.
