조지 부시 미국 대통령과 인도의 만모한 싱 총리는 미국 의회가 양국의 민수용 핵협력 협정을 승인해줄 것을 희망한다고 밝혔습니다.
부시 대통령은 어제 백악관을 방문한 싱 총리와 가진 공동기자회견에서 자신이 집권한 지난 8년동안 미국과 인도의 관계가 향상됐다고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 인도와의 핵협정이 미국 의회에서 가능한 한 빨리 통과될 수 있도록 행정부가 노력하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
지난 2005년 두 정상이 서명한 핵협정에 따라 인도는 핵시설 일부에 대해 국제 사찰을 허용하는 대신 미국으로부터 핵기술과 핵물질을 받을 수 있게 됐습니다.

U.S. President George Bush and visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
have expressed hope that the U.S. Congress will approve a bilateral civilian
nuclear cooperation agreement.
In remarks to reporters at the White House Thursday, Mr. Bush praised bilateral
relations with India which, he said, changed for the better during his eight
years in office.
The U.S. president also said his administration is working hard to get the
nuclear agreement passed in Congress as quickly as possible.
Mr. Singh thanked Mr. Bush for meeting him despite the financial crisis the
U.S. is facing, and for pushing the U.S.-India nuclear agreement through.
The deal signed by the two leaders in 2005 offers India access to U.S.
technology and atomic materials in exchange for international inspections of
some of its nuclear facilities.
