미국과 러시아가 러시아의 그루지아에 침공에 대한 심한 의견차이에도 불구하고 북한과 이란 핵문제에 협력하기로 합의했습니다.
미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관과 러시아의 세르게이 라프로프 외무장관은 러시아가 지난달 그루지아를 침공한 뒤 처음으로 어제 미국 뉴욕에서 만났습니다.
미국 국무부의 다니엘 프리드 차관보는 두 나라 외무장관이 북한 핵문제를 풀기 위한 회담을 계속할 것을 다짐하고, 이란에 대해서는 우라늄 농축을 중단시킬 유인책을 제시하는 한편 이란이 이를 거부할 경우 제재를 가한다는 접근방식을 계속하기로 합의했다고 밝혔습니다.

The United States and Russia have agreed to keep working together on the
Iranian and North Korean nuclear issues despite strong disagreement over
Russia's invasion of Georgia.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov met in New York Wednesday for the first time since Russian troops poured
into Georgia last month.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried told reporters that their
disagreements were clear. But he said the meeting was polite with no shouting
and table-pounding.
Fried said Rice and Lavrov agreed to continue the two-track approach on Iran --
offering it incentives to stop enriching uranium but imposing sanctions if it
refuses. He said both sides are committed to continuing talks on North Korea
and its nuclear program.
