버마 군사정부는 19년간 복역해온 버마의 최장기 정치범이자 언론인인 윈 틴 (사진)을 23일 석방했습니다. 78세의 윈 틴은 석방 직후 랑군시에서 기자들과 만나 버마의 민주화를 이루기 위해 투쟁을 계속할 것이라고 말했습니다.
윈 틴은 반정부 유인물을 제작했다는 혐의로 지난 1989년에 체포돼 징역 20년 형을 선고받고 지금까지 복역해 왔으며 미얀마 민주화 상징인 아웅산 수치 여사와 가까운 관계를 유지하고 있습니다.
그의 석방은 버마 정부가 22일 발표한 9천2명의 수감자에 대한 가석방 조치의 일환으로 이루어졌습니다. 이들 석방 대상자에는 윈 틴 외에도 저명한 민주화 운동가 최소 3명이 포함돼 있는 것으로 전해졌습니다.

Burma's military leaders have released journalist Win Tin, the country's
longest-serving political prisoner, after 19 years in prison.
Shortly after his release today (Tuesday) from Insein Prison in (the
main city of) Rangoon,the ailing 78-year old told a group of
reporters that he would continue his fight until the emergence of democracy in
Burma.
Win Tin was arrested in 1989 and sentenced to 20 years in jail for allegedly
writing anti-government propaganda.He was a close aide of detained
democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
His release comes as Burma also announced the release of nine thousand and two
prisoners for good behavior. Among them are at least three other prominent
democracy activists: May Win Myint, Aung Soe Myint, and Than Nyein.
