Yemeni state media say authorities have detained six militants from a group
that claimed responsibility for last week's attack on the U.S. embassy in
Sanaa.
Yemeni media said Sunday that security forces arrested six members of Islamic
Jihad, including a senior militant named Abu al-Ghaith al-Yamani.
Yemeni media say the six were arrested for allegedy threatening to attack other
foreign embassies in Sanaa, such as those of Britain and Saudi Arabia.
The reports did not directly link the six suspects to the American embassy
attack last Wednesday. In the assault, Islamist militants set off car bombs and
opened fire at an entrance to the U.S. compound, but failed to reach the
building.
Yemeni media said Sunday that two people wounded in the attack have died,
raising the death toll to seven Yemeni security personnel and six civilians.
Six attackers also were killed.
