Pakistan's new president says his
country will not allow foreign powers to violate its territory in the name of
fighting terrorism.
In his first speech to parliament, President Asif Ali Zardari today (Saturday)addressed the ongoing controversy in Pakistan over a series of suspected U.S.
missile strikes and a ground attack against militants in the country's
northwest.
Mr. Zardari also said the country would not allow terrorist attacks against
foreign countries to be launched from Pakistani soil.
In his speech, the president, who is head of the Pakistan People's Party,
outlined a government strategy to deal with terrorism and extremism. That plan
includes peace deals with groups that renounce violence, development aid for
the impoverished tribal regions, and using force as a last resort against
militants
