태국 의회가 부패 혐의로 물러난 탁신 치나왓 전 총리의 매제인 솜차이 옹사왓을 17일 새 총리로 선출했습니다.
솜차이 새 총리는 국민 화합을 촉구하고, 파벌간의 반목이 태국 지도부가 국가적 어려움을 극복하는데 걸림돌이 되서는 안된다고 강조했습니다.
솜차이 새 총리는 전임 사막 순다라벳 총리가 해임된 뒤 지난주부터 총리 대행을 맡아왔습니다.
한편 여당인 '국민의 힘'에 반대하는 '국민민주주의연대'는 3주째 정부청사 점거 농성을 벌이고 있으며 순다라벳 전 총리에 이어 솜차이 역시 탁신 전 총리의 대리인에 불과하다고 비난하고 있습니다.

The brother-in-law of ousted Thai
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been elected as the country's new
premier, despite criticism that his government will be a puppet for the former
leader.
The parliamentary speaker (Chai Chidchob)announced the election of
Somchai Wongsawat today (Wednesday).
Mr.Somchai then called for national reconciliation, saying hatred
should not prevent the country's leaders from working to solve the nation's
problems.
Mr. Somchai has been serving as acting prime minister since last week, when his
predecessor, Samak Sundaravej, was forced to resign. The Constitutional Court
ruled Mr. Samak violated the law by hosting a television cooking show while in
office.
Critics of the ruling People Power Party coalition have camped out on the grounds of the prime minister's office for the past three weeks. They accuse Mr. Somchai, and Mr. Samak before him, of acting as a proxy for Mr. Thaksin.
