미국 서부 캘리포니아주 로스 앤젤레스 LA 인근에서 12일 통근열차와 화물열차가 충돌하는 사고가 발생해 최소한 17명이 사망했다고 당국자들이 밝혔습니다.
당국자들은 LA 북서부 50 km 지점인 채스워스 마을에서 일어난 이번 사고 중 최대 135명이 부상당했다고 덧붙였습니다.
전복된 열차 속에 갇혀있는 사람들에 대한 구조 작업이 12일 밤까지 계속 이어졌습니다. 이날 동원된 소방관들은 전복된 열차에서 발생한 화재를 진압했으며, 기름 유출도 막았다고 말했습니다.
LA 현지 방송은 부상자들을 치료하고 있는 한 병원에서 긴급 헌혈이 필요하다고 보도했습니다.

Officials in (the western U.S. city of) Los Angeles,
California say at least 17 people were killed when a commuter train collided
with a freight train.
Officials say as many as 135 people were injured in Friday's crash in the town
of Chatsworth, about 50 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles.
Rescue workers worked through the night to free people trapped inside the
wreckage. Firefighters say they extinguished a fire and contained an oil spill
caused by the crash.
A Los Angeles television station (KTLA)has broadcast an appeal for
blood donors from one of the hospitals (Simi Valley)that is treating
the injured.
Officials say they do not know how the two trains wound up on the same track.
