미 국무부는 8일 조지 부시 미국 대통령은 러시아와의 핵 협력 협정에 대한 의회의 검토 요청을 철회했다며 이같이 밝혔습니다.
백악관은 그루지야와 그루지야 분리지역으로 인정되는 두 곳에 러시아가 무력 침공을 함에 따라 협정 파기는 논의의 첫 단계였다고 밝혔습니다.

The United States has pulled out of a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Russia.
In a message to Congress, President George Bush withdrew a request for congressional consideration of the deal. He cited recent actions by Russia "incompatible with peaceful relations with its sovereign and democratic neighbor Georgia."
In the message, Mr. Bush said that if circumstances warrant, a new determination will be made and the proposed agreement will be submitted for congressional review.
The White House had said that shelving the cooperation agreement was one step under discussion as a consequence for Russia's military action in Georgia and recognition of two breakaway Georgian regions.
The deal was signed earlier this year in Moscow and would have allowed Russian and U.S. companies to become partners in joint ventures involving the nuclear industry.
