미국은 북한이 핵 검증계획에 합의하는 즉시 북한을 테러지원국에서 해제하겠다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.
북한은 지난 주 영변 핵시설의 불능화 작업을 중단하고 원자로의 원상복구를 고려 중이라고 발표한 바 있습니다. 북한은 이 같은 조치는 미국이 북한에 대한 테러지원국 지정해제 약속을 이행하지 않은데 따른 대응이라고 밝혔습니다.
미국측 6자회담의 수석대표인 크리스토퍼 힐 국무부 차관보는 6일 북한이 핵 프로그램의 폐기를 검증할 수 있는 기준에 동의한다면 북한을 즉시 테러지원국에서 해제할 수 있다고 말했습니다.
힐 차관보는 북한은 테러지원국에서 해제되기 위해 미국이 원하는 기준에 동의만 하면 되고 핵 폐기를 증명할 필요는 없다고 말했습니다.
이보다 앞서 미국과 한국, 일본의 6자회담 수석대표들은 5일 잇따라 양자 및 삼자 회동을 갖고 북한의 핵 불능화 중단 및 핵시설 복구 움직임에 대한 대응방안을 모색했습니다.

The United States says it will immediately remove North Korea from
its terrorism list if the North agrees to a nuclear verification plan.
Last week, North Korea announced it had halted the disablement of its main
nuclear complex (in mid-August)and was considering restoring its
reactor. North Korea said its move was a response to Washington's failure to
remove it from a list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Chief U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill said today (Saturday)the
de-listing could happen instantly if North Korea agrees to rules allowing
verification of the shutdown of the country's nuclear program.
Hill says North Korea would only have to agree to the rules the U.S. wants and
would not have to prove its shutdown to be removed from the terror list.
Countries involved in talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program are
holding a second day of discussions today (Saturday)in Beijing on
Pyongyang's plans to restore its disabled nuclear weapons plant.
