파키스탄 내무부 장관은31일 자정부터 10월 2일까지 아프간 국경 부족 지역을 대상으로 한 군사 작전을 중단한다고 30일 발표했습니다. 하지만 그는 만일 무장요원들의 공격이 발생한다면 보안군이 이에 전면 대응할 것이라고 경고했습니다.
이번 결정은 파키스탄 군이 소요지역인 스왓계곡 내 이슬람 무장요원들의 은신처를 공습해 무장요원 40명을 사살했다고 발표한 지 하루 만에 나온 것입니다.
이와는 별도로 30일 남부 와지리스탄의 한 부족지역 내 민가에 미사일 공격이 가해져 5명 이상이 숨졌습니다.

Pakistan has announced the
suspension of military operations against Islamist militants in the country's
northwest during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to allow civilians to observe
the religious festival.
Head of Pakistan's Interior Ministry Rehman Malik said Saturday there will be
no military operations in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan from Sunday
midnight until October second. He warned, however, that security forces will
respond with full force if attacked.
The announcement came a day after Pakistan's army said it had killed at least
40 militants in an air strike on militant hideouts in the troubled Swat Valley.
In a separate incident Saturday, a missile hit a house in the semi-autonomous
tribal region of South Waziristan, killing at least five people.
An army spokesman (Major Murad Khan) said he was aware of the explosion,
but could not confirm whether it was caused by a missile.
