이란 정부가 우라늄 농축에 쓰이는 원심분리기 4천 개를 가동 중이라고 밝혔습니다.
이란의 알리 레자 쉐이크 아타르 외무차관은 이란 국영 매체와의 인터뷰에서 추가로 3천 개의 원심분리기가 이란의 주요 핵시설이 있는 나탄즈에 곧 설치될 것이라며 이같이 말했습니다.
이란 정부가 발표한 규모의 원심분리기가 실제로 가동된다면, 이란의 농축 우라늄 생산능력이 크게 향상될 수 있습니다.
이란은 핵개발 계획이 전력 생산을 위한 것이라고 거듭 주장하고 있지만, 미국을 비롯한 비판적인 국가들은 이란이 핵무기를 개발하려는 것으로 의심하고 있습니다. 이란의 아마디네자드 대통령은 지난 4월 6천 개의 새 원심분리기를 설치할 계획이라고 발표한 바 있습니다.

A top Iranian official say the country now has four-thousand, working
nuclear centrifuges.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Sheik Attar made the claim to Iranian state
media today (Friday), saying another three-thousand centrifuges will
soon be installed at Iran's main nuclear site in Natanz.
The centrifuges could significantly boost Iran's ability to produce enriched
uranium.
Iran has repeatedly said the goal of its nuclear program is to generate
electricity. But critics -- including the United States -- fear Iran is trying
to develop nuclear warheads. Highly enriched uranium can be used to make
nuclear weapons.
International officials last estimated Iran was operating 35-hundred
uranium-enriching centrifuges at the Natanz facility.
In April, President Ahmadinejad announced plans to install six thousand new
centrifuges.
