중국 외교부의 친강 대변인은 28일, 중국은 대만이 유엔의 특별기구와 관련기구에 가입하려는 노력을 단호히 반대한다고 말했습니다. 친강 대변인은 이러한 기구들의 회원국들은 주권국들이며 대만의 가입을 지지하는 것은 중국의 영토 보전을 침해하는 행동이라고 말했습니다.
대만과 중국은 1949년 중국 국민당과 공산당의 내전으로 분리됐습니다. 하지만 중국은 자치 지역인 대만이 자신의 영토에 속해있다고 간주하고 있습니다.
마잉주 대만 총통은 중국으로부터 독립을 추구하지 않을 것임을 나타냈습니다. 마잉주 내각은 세계보건기구와 같은 유엔 기구들과 세계은행과 같은 국제기구에 가입을 시도해왔습니다.

China has criticized Taiwan's attempts to win membership in organizations affiliated with the United Nations, even after the island put aside its long-standing bid to gain full membership in the world body.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang today(Thursday)said Beijing firmly opposes Taiwan's efforts to join the U.N.'s specialized agencies and affiliated organizations. He said members of such bodies are sovereign states and supporting Taiwan's membership in them would infringe on China's territorial integrity.
Taiwan and China split following a civil war in 1949, but Beijing regards the self-ruled island to be a part of its own territory.
Taiwan's new president, Ma Ying-jeou, has signaled that he will not seek independence for the island. His government has pursued membership in U.N. agencies and global organizations such as the World Bank and the World Health Organization.
