이스라엘이 팔레스타인 정부에 대한 선의의 표시로 팔레스타인 수감자 2백명을 석방하겠다고 발표했습니다.
이스라엘 내각은 이 같은 조치를 17일 승인했습니다.
이스라엘 정부 대변인은 이 계획은 양측의 평화협상을 강화하기 위한 신뢰구축 조치라고 말했습니다.
하지만 이스라엘 야당은 테러에 대한 보상이라며 이번 조치를 비판했습니다.
이런 가운데 팔레스타인 측은 이스라엘의 계획을 환영하면서, 동시에 더 많은 팔레스타인 수감자들의 석방을 촉구했습니다.
현재 이스라엘에 수감된 팔레스타인은 1만 1천명에 이릅니다.
석방되는 수감자들 가운데는 지난 1970년대 이스라엘인들을 공격한 팔레스타인 테러요원 2명도 포함돼 있는 것으로 알려졌습니다.

Israel has announced plans to release about 200 Palestinian prisoners in a goodwill gesture toward the government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Israeli Cabinet approved the measure today (Sunday), making good on a plan first announced by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert earlier this month.
An Israeli government spokesman (Mark Regev) says the plan is a confidence-building measure aimed at strengthening peace talks between the two governments.
But Israeli opposition members criticized the decision, with one parliament member (Aryeh Eldad) calling the plan a "reward for terror."
The Palestinian minister for prisoner affairs (Ashraf al-Ajrami) welcomed the decision, but called on Israel to release more prisoners.
There are some 11-thousand Palestinians jailed in Israel.
An Israeli official says two of the prisoners being considered for release are accused of carrying out attacks on Israelis in the 1970s. The official says authorities believe those two prisoners are not likely to return to violence.
