세계식량계획, WFP는 국제 식량 가격과 유가 인상으로 가장 큰 타격을 입은 16개 지역을 대상으로 한 새 구호활동을 전개한다고 밝혔습니다.
WFP은 새로운 구호계획에 총 2억1천4백만 달러가 소요되며 위기 발생 지역에서 기아와 영양실조를 막는데 초점을 맞출 것이라고 설명했습니다.
가뭄과 정국불안, 물가 인상 등으로 수백만명이 식량구호에 의존하는 에티오피아와 소말리아에 전체 자금의 절반이 넘는 1억1천만 달러가 배당됐습니다.
구호활동 계획은 국가별로 다르게 적용됩니다. WFP는 특히 임산부와 어린이들을 위한 보조 식품을 제공하고 피해가 큰 도시 지역에는 현금 등을 보조하고 월 식사 배급량을 새로 책정한다는 계획입니다.

A United Nations food agency says it has launched new programs in 16
areas hit hardest by the global rise in food and fuel prices.
The U.N. World Food Program says the programs, costing 214-million dollars, are
aimed at stopping a full-blown hunger and nutritional crisis in the affected
areas.
More than half of the money (110-million dollars)will be used in
Ethiopia and Somalia, where drought, insecurity, and high prices have left
millions dependent on food aid.
The rest will be used to feed vulnerable populations in 14 other countries and
territories.
Programs vary from country to country. The WFP says they include supplemental
food to pregnant women and young children, cash and voucher payments in
hard-hit urban areas, and new monthly rations to the most vulnerable groups.
