아프가니스탄 동부 파키스탄과의 접경 부근에서 발생한 북대서양조약기구, 나토군 및 아프간 정부간과 무장분자들간 전투에서 70명 정도까지의 무장분자들이 살해됐다고 아프간 관계관들이 전했습니다.
동부 코스트 지역의 주지사는 한 정부 청사에서27일 거의 100명에 달하는 무장 분자들이 경비대원들을 제압하고 경찰관 2명을 살해하자 아프간 정부군과 나토 연합군이 대응공격을 개시했다고 말했습니다.
주지사는 지상군 병력이 공군의 지원을 요청했으며 나토군의 무장 헬기들이 중화기를 발사해 수많은 무장분자들을 살해했으며 다른 저항분자들은 15킬로미터 쯤 떨어진 파키스탄 국경을 향해 도주했다고 전했습니다.
한편 코스트의 다른 지역에서 경찰은 자살폭탄공격범이 27일 한 도로 건설 현장 부근에서 자폭해 한 명이 사망하고 6명이 다쳤다고 밝혔습니다.

Afghan officials say up to 70 militants have been killed in a battle with NATO and government forces in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border.
The governor of Khost Province (Arsallah Jamal) says Afghan and NATO forces mounted a counterattack early today (Sunday) after nearly 100 militants overwhelmed guards at a government center (in the Spera district) and killed two police officers.
The Afghan governor said troops on the ground called for air support, and heavy machine-gun fire from NATO's helicopter gunships killed scores of militants. Other insurgents fled toward the Pakistan border, about 15 kilometers away.
Reuters news agency says the Taliban denies any of its fighters was killed.
In another part of Khost, police say a suicide bomber blew himself up (Sunday) near a road construction crew, killing one person and wounding six.
