Tens of thousands of people hurriedly purchased the remaining tickets to the Beijing Olympics today (Friday) after many waited in line overnight.
China's official Xinhua news agency said 30-thousand people lined up for tickets near the main Olympic venue in Beijing. The agency said some people became impatient because of the hot weather and long wait.
Witnesses reported chaotic scenes at ticketing booths, as some fans scuffled and stampeded in a bid to buy some of the 250-thousand remaining Olympic tickets.
Police limited journalists' access to some areas during the commotion. Hong Kong television showed authorities shoving one reporter. Officials said the reporter was trying to go into a restricted area, refused to comply with orders and was escorted away.
