오바마 의원은 14일 미국 일간지 뉴욕 타임즈에 게재한 글에서 자신이 대통령이 되면 이라크에서 미군을 영구주둔 시키려는 잘못된 야망으로 미군 병사와 물자를 저당잡히지는 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
오바마 의원은 그러나 이라크에 잔존병력을 남겨 알카에다 잔당들과의 전투수행과 미군관계자 보호 등의 임무는 계속 수행토록 할 것이라고 말했습니다.
오바마 의원은 자신은 이라크 전쟁이 실수였다고 생각한다고 말하고 전쟁은 종식되야 한다고 덧붙였습니다.
오바마 의원은 최근 몇 주간 대통령에 당선될 경우 이라크 주둔군의 철수를 연기할 것이라는 발언으로 비난을 받아왔습니다.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling for U.S. combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by mid-2010.
In an opinion article in The New York Times today (Monday), Obama says as president he would not hold the U.S. military or its resources "hostage" to what he called a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq.
Obama says a residual force would remain in Iraq to perform limited service missions such as fighting remnants of al-Qaida and protecting U.S. military personnel.
Obama says he believes the war in Iraq was a mistake and should be brought to an end.
Obama has faced criticism in recent weeks over charges that if elected he may delay the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
In the article, Obama also says he plans to send at least two more combat brigades to Afghanistan. The presidential hopeful says more troops, helicopters and intelligence gathering are needed to accomplish the mission there.
