오는 11월 미국에서 실시될 대통령 선거에서 민주당 대선 후보로 거의 확실시 되고 있는 버락 오바마 상원의원은 국내 최대 교사 노조 가운데 하나인 미국교사연맹의 지지를 받아냈습니다.
13일 시카고에서 모임을 가진 미국교사연맹 소속 노조원들은 백만 여 명의 노조원 전체가 11월 대선에서 오바마 의원을 지지할 것을 촉구하는 안을 가결했습니다.
일리노이 주 출신의 오바마 상원의원은 위성 중계를 통해 이들 노조원들이 지지해 준데 대해 고마움을 표시한 뒤 자신의 교육 정책을 밝혔습니다. 오바마 의원은 현재 시행중인 정부의 '낙제학생 방지법' 은 자금부족으로 방해를 받고 있다고 지적하고 성장장애 아동들을 돕기 위한 특수교육프로그램에 보다 더 큰 관심을 기울일 것을 촉구했습니다.

Barack Obama, the U.S. Democratic Party's presumed presidential nominee, has won the endorsement of one of the country's largest teachers' unions.
Members of the American Federation of Teachers, meeting today (Sunday) in Chicago, voted to urge all of the union's more than one million members to support Obama in the U.S. general election in November.
Obama, a U.S. senator from Illinois, spoke by satellite to the union delegates afterwards to thank them for their support and discuss his education policy. He said current U.S. government policy on primary education, the so-called "No Child Left Behind" program, has been hampered by inadequate funding, and he also called for greater attention to special education programs aimed at helping children with developmental difficulties.
